One day
A very long time from now
But in the blink of an eye as far as the universe is concerned
Maybe an asteroid will come for us like in those disaster movies that I just love
Or an unlikely supernova
Or maybe none of that will happen and the Sun will love us so much
That it will swallow us whole
Boiling the oceans first for a nice tea
This is the rapture: when we will go home to join the stars once again
Every remaining piece of all of us
The collection of life on Earth
No longer staring up, longing, waiting on this little blue and green rock
For our turn to say, “It’s happening.”
“A very long time from now?” Maybe yes, maybe no. Who knows?
Wonderful poem. We must make the most of our brief visit!
Well done.
