Sarah, I read an article in the Gringo Gazette that the government watch dog agency had closed down 40 pharmacies in the Los Cabos area due to selling fake or adulterated medications. I went to a Similaries pharmacy in San Jose del Cabo and it was closed. Steve
Re: farmacias. There are also farmacias especializadas that sell over the counter quite a few medicines that would otherwise require a prescription. As far pain meds Tramadol is available over the counter anywhere and codeine is/was available without a prescription at the farmacia especializada. But I was told by an oral surgeon that he was not legally authorized to prescribe stronger pain meds, which I told him made no sense, given his specialty.
