I totally agree about the sketchyness of AI. Particularly, because it absorbs the prevailing social, cultural, and political sensibilities of the data that it is exposed to -- which is a problematic proposition all on its own. Then to top it off, its primary goal is/will be to increase shareholder value, not make the world a better place.
You are correct, it is in its infancy. Like a model T compared to a new BYD, or Tesla. Something state of the art compared to 1900 technology, like the assembly line versus built by hand. Technology is like compound interest. It increases exponentially.
"Then to top it off, its primary goal is/will be to increase shareholder value, not make the world a better place." This statement reminds me of the horseless carriage "Red Flag Laws" of yore. The fact that we are able to voice our opinions over the Internet with computers has increased shareholder value; which for me as a value/dividend investor has prevented me from living in poverty. A simplistic statement - of course. We have no idea where AI is going to take us in the future. Let us not speculate on the downside of future technical innovation.
Well, one person’s downside can be another’s upside, right? In fact, it often is in an economic system like ours. That said, I hope my gloomy speculation turns out to be dead wrong.
I have just read Dale Carnegie's book titled "How to Stop Worrying and Start Living". I have found that at the tender age of eighty-one it takes effort to change my mindset. However I am aware and I am working on it.
Your not wrong and I jumped in. Mapping off road trails in Mexico, descriptions were my most timely task. Now I bang it out in a sloppy manner and say rewrite as an expert writer (maybe all of YOU expert writers should get a residual). In an instant I sound like an English major and AI fixes my terrible grammar. Scary powerful in ways we have not yet even considered.
Here is my comment rewritten by AI:
“You are correct, and I must admit that I hastily joined in. When I was mapping off-road trails in Mexico, writing descriptions was the most time-consuming task. Now, I quickly jot down my thoughts in a haphazard manner and request that they be rewritten by an expert writer (perhaps all of you expert writers should receive a residual). In an instant, I sound like an English major as AI corrects my poor grammar. It’s frighteningly powerful in ways we have yet to fully comprehend.”
Thanks! I certainly don't blame anyone for using the tools available to them...especially when it comes to trying to make a living (unless I guess if those "tools" are exploited people, ha). It's not that I think my job will disappear soon; mostly I'm afraid that the perceived worth of what I do by those who pay me to do it will go way down. I DO need to sit down and figure out how to make it work for me, for sure. As my sister says, "I don't want to be the only girl not dancing!" :D

Oof, that last sentence summed it up better than I did -- well said, Allen!
Every once in a while I come up with a good turn of phrase.
Thanks.

Agreed -- 81 is much too young to have everything figured out! But, I'm happy for you that you feel you're on the right path. <3

Keep up the good work, its valuable and you are very talented. Someday soon people will easily recognize the difference between unique and AI gen.
